Publish Your Poems:

A 9-week group to help you make the leap into getting poems published

Would you like to learn how to get published by literary magazines and journals?

Getting your poems into magazines is not only thrilling in itself, but is also a very important marker of your poetry career.

For example, if you want to get a book or chapbook/pamphlet published one day, it will be much easier if you already have a good number of magazine publications to your name.

However, that's not always straightforward. Most editors receive thousands of poems for every issue, and publish only a few. So yes, you could just stuff 5 poems into a (virtual) envelope, send them off, and pray for good news, but it definitely helps to be smart about your submissions, and to know what you're doing.

So I've put this Publish Your Poems group together to help you do that.

As a member of this group, you will:

  • Get help editing and polishing your poems to a submission-ready standard

  • Learn how to choose, arrange, and title your poems to maximize your chances

  • Put together a strong submission pack and get feedback on your choices

  • Become better informed about the world of poetry magazines and journals, and learn how to find outlets that are a good fit for you

  • Become confident with the logistics of submissions: formatting poems, writing cover letters and bios, making simultaneous submissions, and so on

  • Make at least one submission!

Group Details

  • The group will run for 9 weeks.

  • There will be five 2-hour Zoom meetings during that time, where we will do much of the work.

  • You will also receive from me Revision and Editing exercises to complete by yourself, as well as assignments revising your poems, researching poetry markets, and preparing your submission packet.

  • You will also meet separately with a feedback partner to give and receive feedback on 10 pages of poems.

  • So there will be plenty to do! You should allow about another 2-5 hours per week besides the Zoom Meeting times.

The next group Zoom meetings will be on the following dates.

(I will send you videos of each session in case you missed something, but it's best to plan on being there for all of them.)

  • Meeting 1: Tuesday June 18, 2024, 3-5pm EDT

  • Meeting 2: Tuesday July 9, 2024, 3-5pm EDT

  • Meeting 3: Tuesday July 23, 2024, 3-5pm EDT

  • Meeting 4: Tuesday August 6, 2024, 3-5pm EDT

  • Meeting 5: Tuesday August 20, 2024, 3-5pm EDT

Can’t make those dates?

Please enter your email, and I’ll let you know as soon as I set up another group. Thanks!

Costs

The group costs $359, which makes it a savings of around $800 compared with 10 hours of my Mentoring service! So I think it's great value and will really help you if you want to make more and better submissions.

Please note that I am limiting the group to 6 people, and I will deal with applications on a first-come, first-served basis. So don't wait too long!

To Apply

Please email me 2-3 of your poems, and also say a little about why you want to join.

This is so I can make sure that the group will be right for you, and a good use of your time and effort. Then I will send you an invoice so you can book.
